James is about to meet his girlfriend’s family for the first time. He is aware that Lisa’s family is very traditional, there are some practices and traditions that they go through during Chinese New year. She has warned him about it. As a Singaporean, he thought he has seen it all, but not until he visited Lisa’s family and gets greeted by her female cousins. All 6 of them.

It’s the first day of Chinese New year, i’m up at 7am even before my alarm went off. Opening my room door, i could see my parents are already up and about. They were busy making offerings to my grandparents who has already passed on, and getting the house ready for visiting relatives.

I washed up, got changed and wished my parents Happy New year with 2 mandarin oranges. They will be seated on the chair, and after i wished both of them, they will give me a red packet. We will have breakfast together, the TV will be playing New year programs in the background.

The lights in the living room are all switched on and we will greet neighbours walking by the corridor too. This is traditions for me on the first day of CNY. I will chill at home for a bit before making plans either to visit friends, cousins, or when i’m attached, to visit my girlfriend’s parents.

I got attached about 6 months ago to Lisa. I must have done some good deeds in my past life to meet Lisa and have her as my girlfriend.

She’s not only hot, she has that kind of looks that doesn’t just turn heads, but causes entire rooms to pause. Her hair is a cascade of dark silk, often pulled back into a playful ponytail that bounces with each spirited step she takes. Ponytail that when slapped across your cheeks on a crowded MRT, will make you smile instead of getting you irritated.

Her eyes, a deep and lustrous brown, are windows to a soul filled with mirth and intelligence, often alight with a mischievous spark. She the smiling girl from elite schools that neighbourhood boys like me can only ogle from afar.

Her skin has the soft glow of porcelain, but it’s her smile that truly defines her—a curve so sweet and inviting it’s as if it holds secrets to untold joy. Especially when i bury myself into her, that smile is worth a million bucks.

Lisa’s fashion sense is as spunky as her personality; she favors bold colors that compliment her youthful exuberance and dresses in a way that merges the latest trends with a touch of traditional elegance.

Her laughter is a melody that dances through the air—playful, sonorous, and utterly contagious. With an energetic stride, Lisa moves with the confidence of someone who knows exactly who she is and where she’s going.

And to top it all off, she has a damm high sex drive. For someone who has never been religious, i started thanking gods after Lisa and i became an item.

When i got to Lisa’s place at a landed estate in Serangoon Gardens, i could see plenty of footwear lining the mat outside the main door. What surprised me was how many pair of beautiful, seductive high heels there were, one of which i recognised belonged to my girlfriend.

The gate to the house is locked so i hit the doorbell and waved into the camera. I heard a buzz and the magnetic catch unlocked. I stepped into the carporch and the door to the house opened.

Instead of Lisa, a beautiful woman i’ve never seen before stepped out and slipped into her heels.

My eyes swept over her attire, taking in the unexpected blend of tradition and modernity she wore so effortlessly. She was dressed in a cheongsam that seemed to capture the essence of spring itself. The fabric clung softly to her form, adorned with a garden of pastel florals that whispered of new beginnings. The dress was a canvas of artistry, its mandarin collar perched delicately at her neck, as if crowning her with understated nobility.

Her hair, a cascade of wavy chestnut locks, framed her face with a gentle, flowing grace, catching the light as if kissed by the sun. The cheongsam cut off just above her knees, revealing legs that were accentuated by the most striking pair of high heels in a shade of sky blue — an echo of the clear, hopeful skies outside her window.

I was entranced, not just by her beauty or the enchanting blend of silk and color she wore, but by the entirety of her — the poise, the gracefulness of how she carried herself.

Sarah : Hi You must be Lisa’s boyfriend James. I’m Sarah, Lisa’s cousin.

She extended her hand i had to bite down on my teeth so i won’t go ‘wow’ and how beautiful she is.

James : ermm…yah, hi.

Sarah : James, as the eldest cousin, i need to inform you that there are some traditions that the family observes for Chinese New Year. There are some things you need to perform, before you can meet Lisa.

James : oh…ermm…ok…What do i need to do?

I immediately took out the oranges i brought along but the moment the door opened, i dropped both fruit and practically watched them roll slow motion to the bottom of the driveway.

Sarah : Well, it’s complicated, but traditions have to be observed, my sister and i, and the rest of the cousins will walk you through together.

Sarah said with a smile that made me tremble as i heard the magnetic catch of the gate snap shut while the ladies slipped on their heels excitedly by the main door, all of them casting looks that seemed as if they were out to devour me alive.

Sarah : Let me introduce you…that is Sylvia, my twin sister. And the rest of the cousin, Lucy, Ursula, Suzy and Thea.

My jaw practically dropped as i looked at the girls in front of me.

Sylvia’s cheongsam bore intricate patterns of peonies and chrysanthemums, symbols of prosperity and longevity, woven with threads that glinted like the first stars of night. Her hair was pinned up in an elegant chignon, a few deliberate strands framing her face, adding a touch of softness to her striking features.

Behind her, Lucy, Ursula, Suzy and Thea, they were all dressed in Qipao. Their cheongsams were a parade of colors—emerald greens, sapphire blues, sunset oranges, and royal purples—each with elaborate designs that told stories of Chinese folklore and heritage. They moved with the effortless grace of a choreographed dance, their silken gowns whispering secrets of ancient times.

For a second, i thought i was in some hang flower joint at Jalan Sultan, but hearing them converse, i realised they were all well educated and classy women.

Their beauty was not just in their attire or the symmetry of their features, but in the joy that radiated from them.

The Chinese New Year is upon us, and with these enchanting emissaries of tradition and beauty, it promised to be a celebration of unforgettable splendor.

There’s a lot going through my mind at that point in time, and at the top of my list was not the twins, Sarah and Sylvia. I could not get over the fact that the cousin’s name when put together spelled the word ‘Lust’

Sarah : Come James, This will be a Chinese New year you will never forget.
